Rope Access Birmingham

Rope access services in Birmingham are provided by Rope Task. Specialist rope access, abseil services, fall arrest installation, workplace fall protection and on-site testing of safety equipment are all services that we provide throughout the UK.

Rope access is a solution which is gaining popularity in many towns and cities across the UK. It challenges the use of scaffolding, cradles or MEWP's by allowing technicians to descend, ascend and traverse ropes as a means to access the work area. This is done whilst being suspended from a harness which often allows the work to be done much more efficiently.

Some people considering rope access may be concerned about the safety aspects but there are various safety measures which are put in place. Rope Access techniques were first used in the UK 25 years ago, mainly in industrial applications. However through the use of hi-tech climbing materials and extensive training, rope access is now used safely for working at height worldwide.

Some of the safety procedures implemented include:

  • A rope access technician always has two attachments at all times, each having an independent anchorage point.
  • When ropes support the worker, each of the worker's ropes will have a fail-safe descent/ascent and safety mechanism.
  • All secondary tools and equipment are attached by lanyards to the worker's harness.
  • A minimum of two rope access maintenance technicians are required for any job.
  • All technicians are independently assessed.
  • Training includes complex rescue procedures.
  • All equipment is regularly inspected and maintained.
  • Codes of practice and working systems have been carefully refined over the years by the HSE, IRATA and ISO.

Rope Task is willing to offer advice and site visits to discuss your particular needs regarding all aspects of rope access, working at height and fall protection requirements.

Why choose Rope Access for your working at height needs?

There are several reasons why rope access is becoming a more popular method to work at height including:

  • Economical: There is less personnel, material and time involved and swift mobilisation means that rope access is cheaper.
  • Efficient: Rope access is easily operational and other processes running at the same time rarely need to be interrupted. For example at Jaguar Land Rover we were able to replace filters in the ducting system whilst the main factory could stay fully operational. Also in Birmingham City Centre using other methods such as a cherry picker or scaffolding may require additional planning such as road closures with the council which may or may not be agreed to.
  • Adaptable: Rope Access can be used for a wide variety of applications, some that many people don't even thing ok.
  • Safe: The accident and fatality stats for Rope Access is much lower than other solutions.

Rope Task were contacted by Freudenberg, a global technology group supplying filtration systems to high tech manufacturing plants. The problem they had was the replacement of high-level filters to the ducting systems within the Jaguar Land Rover paint shop. This was not possible using scaffold or MEWP access machines due to conveyor track systems that transport vehicles through the paint shop process...
